Can You Name 2 Things (other than CBD!) Made from Hemp?

Here at Canasol Labs, the makers of Nanosoluble CBD, we are big believers in the many uses of the hemp plant, which gives us CBD. But even we were surprised when we learned how many products are being made from hemp these days.

To many people hemp is a new commodity, but it has been around – and being used productively – for centuries. As reported in MIT’s Thistle, “Hemp was probably the earliest plant cultivated for textile fiber. Archaeologists found a remnant of hemp cloth in ancient Mesopotamia (currently Iran and Iraq) which dates back to 8,000 BC. Hemp is also believed to be the oldest example of human industry. In the Lu Shi, a Chinese work of the Sung dynasty (500 AD), we find reference to the Emperor Shen Nung (28th century BC) who taught his people to cultivate hemp for cloth.”

Products Made from Hemp

In addition to cultivating the hemp plant for the many CBD products available today, including our highly effective water soluble CBD, hemp is being used to make a surprising number of things that you might find around the house.

According to the Hemp Business Journal, “Industrial hemp can be used in an estimated 50,000 different products across a wide spectrum of industries: from textiles to food products, building materials to bio-plastics, nutraceuticals to nanomaterials, ethanol to animal bedding.”

Here are some of what we thought were the most interesting applications:

  • Soil remediation and reclamation. Hemp is a great crop to use when the soil has been loaded up with pesticides and fertilizers because it can detoxify the soil and replenish it with nutrients.
  • 3-D printing filaments and bioplastics. In the coming years, you’re going to see a lot of development in this area. “Hemp is making it’s way into a variety of plastic-based applications, and manufacturers are beginning to take a serious look at greening up their offerings with hemp while reducing the use of petroleum and synthetic materials,” the Hemp Business Journal reports.

It hasn’t been long since it became legal for farmers to grow hemp, which opened the door to all the CBD-based products on the market, including, of course, our Phyto cannabinoid-rich Nanosoluble CBD. It is exciting to see a lot of other innovative products emerging as well.
